CHANDIS BELL RACE TO BRIXHAM 2018

 

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

 

Saturday 19th May 2018        HW Exmouth 10:17 hrs BST (3.8 m)

 

Start Time:                              10:00 hrs BST

 

RULES

 

This is a race for Club Cruisers and Dayboats only and will be based on LSC Club Handicap System currently in force at the time of the race. Racing will be governed by current ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing, the prescriptions of the R.Y.A. and these Sailing Instructions.

 

START LINE

 

The start line will be the line between Exe Safe Water Mark and No. 2 Channel Buoy

 

It is recommended that you allow at least one hour to reach the start line.

 

All competing boats should be in the vicinity of the start line at least ten minutes before the warning signal.

 

NOTE: At 1015 hrs TSC will be starting their ‘East of Exe Race to Dartmouth’ in the same area so a reasonable number of cruisers can be expected to be gathering in and around the start area.

STARTING PROCEDURE

 

The starting procedure will be by one long sound signal at START minus 5 Minutes. There will be no other signals, and each crew will be responsible for their own count down to zero time (Start).

 

This sound signal will also be broadcast over Channel 77

The following are the marks of the course:

Teign Outfall Buoy (Yellow Pillar Buoy, 50 31.97’N, 03 27.78’W), Orestone,

 

COURSE

 

Two courses are listed below and the course to be sailed will be dependant on wind and weather conditions at the time. The selected course will be relayed on Channel 77 (Call sign ‘Dolphin Fleet’ before the 5-minute start signal.

 

Course 1          Leave Ore Stone to Starboard

 

Course 2         Leave Teign Outfall Buoy (Yellow Pillar Buoy, 50 31.97’N, 03 27.78’W) to port and Ore Stone to starboard.

 

(Be aware of the Sunker Rock, 100m SW of the Ore Stone.)

 

 

FINISH LINE

 

The finish line will be a line between the first green starboard buoy at Brixham harbour entrance & the Brixham SC green flagged buoy marking their start line

 

An intermediate finish line will be a transit of the NE faces of the Lead Stone and the Ore Stone.

 

 

TIMING

 

  • Each crew will record its own time when crossing both the intermediate finish line and the finish line.
  • Make a note of the boat ahead of you and the boat astern of you (if visible).
  • Please inform the Cruiser Captain of the timings as soon as possible.
  • By submitting times for the intermediate and final finishes competitors are deemed to have declared that they have sailed in accordance with these sailing instructions.

 

 

INSURANCE

 

Each participating boat must be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2,000,000 for each and every event.

 

 

BERTHING

 

The first boat to finish should contact Brixham Marina (Ch 80 or 01803 882929) on their approach and state their arrival from Lympstone Sailing Club. Berths will be allocated by the Harbour Master on their events pontoon, & boats are to raft up as necessary.

 

Competitors are responsible for paying their own mooring dues.

 

SAFETY

 

Boat owners are reminded that it is a legal requirement to prepare a passage plan before setting out, and to have appropriate charts, radio and navigation aids, safety equipment, etc.

 

Crews to keep a look out for other boats taking part and to be prepared to assist if necessary.

 

Use VHF Ch. 77 for communication between LSC boats.

 

The timing of the return to Lympstone is at the discretion of the boat owner, and is not part of this event. (HW Tides at Exmouth on 20/5/18 are 1102hrs, Ht 3.5m or 2315 hrs, Ht 3.7m)RH 03/05/17
