Work is now complete on the Under-Exe Cafe, the sister restaurant to the River Exe Cafe. Unlike the River Exe Cafe, which floats on The Exe off Starcross, the Under-Exe Cafe will be moored to the estuary bed between Lympstone and Starcross. At low tide the Under-Exe will sit on the estuary bed offering unrivalled views of the estuary, the villages on its banks and the glorious sunsets through the cafes glass windows. As the tide rises diners will feel and see them selves submerging below the surface of the estuary providing a grandstand seat from which to watch passing sea bass and seals.
The menu promises something special. Glass tanks have been installed from which guests can choose their lobster, or they can watch as their fresh mussels or oysters are hauled aboard from ropes on the estuary bed.
The cafe will be accessed from Lympstone Harbour by sea tractor - similar to the one famously used at Burgh Island . Bookings for this unique dining experience will open on 1st April.
